Medjool Dates - new foods to try

So this weekend I tried my first medjool dates. They were called for in a recipe for banana bread as the sweetener as opposed to sugar or fake sugar. Anyway, I had never had one before. After eating my first one, I thought, "I'm not so sure about these." But, after my second one, I was in love! I love how the outside is a little crunchier than the inside, and they are very sweet! I could have continued to indulge, but I waited until the bread was done. These are going to be a go-to food when I am craving something sweet but don't want any refined sugar, which I'm trying to make it through January without.
Anyway, are there any other sort of off-the-beaten path type of foods that you eat that are really great? Please share.

I love dates, they have about 63 calories each, very nutrient dense0
