that's my problem. i live in a household where I can't chose what is put on the grocery list and most of the food items aren't that great for you. I try to portion control but it's sooooooo hard when theres all that yummy food sitting in front of you. i'm working out but i feel like all my hard work at the gym is going to waste because i'm eating unhealthy food. what do i do? how do i say no?

I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but I thought I would let you know that your not the only one in that situation. I'm in pretty much the same boat. I am glad you posted this because I will be looking for any input as well.
  • Just do it. Why can't you control what goes on the grocery list? You can ask for some fruits and veggies, can't you? If it's really that difficult, put aside some money each week to buy your own healthy snacks.

As for at meals, drink a large cup of water 15 minutes before mealtimes. Chew your food slowly, make a mental note of the flavour, texture, aroma. Put down your cutlery while you chew and swallow. Take a breath before you take the next bite, and take small bites.

Only put as much on your plate as is a sensible portion -- or, if your plate is being dished up for you, ask for smaller portions. Wait at least 20 minutes before going back for seconds -- and only eat from a plate or bowl, with cutlery.

EDIT: my first paragraph wasn't supposed to be condescending, upon rereading I found it to be so. I've also been struggling with not feeling comfortable to ask for things to be put on the grocery list, and having delicious food sitting there asking to be eaten. I went from a cook-it-yourself-unless-you-want-salad house, to a home where hude, rich meals were prepared almost every night.

can yo walk to the store? the key is to make sure that there is good food to eat there when you want the bad stuff. diet is such an important part and if they cant see that you are trying to make a change maybe they need talking to again. i repeatedly ask my husband not to buy stuff that i would eat. he agrees, most of the time. i decided that i am worth more than that and that i feel crappy when i eat junk. sugar is so bad for my body and makes me feel so crappy, that it is not worth eating. im not saying i totally go witout but i have choc bars and ice cream in the house right now and it is no big deal because i know i can eat a piece of fruit if i want something sweet. you have to be able to have other choices.
