What i want to know is exactly what made everyone else's journey so successful. Diet? Exercises? Videos? Websites? Please be as specific as possible and let me know what exactly i need to do. First, the kick in the pants that got me going was a high blood pressure diagnosis. My doctor all but told me that I would not live to 50 if I did not lose weight and change my eating habits.
As for my "success". I was somewhat fortunate as I had been working out for a couple of years. Nothing big , 2 - 3 martial arts classes per week (Capoeira and Jeet Kune do). What had been holding me back was my eating habits. I would go to a class, work hard and then stop at Mcdonalds on my way home. In addition, things like bacon and eggs, pizza, BBQ chicken with sauce & fries along with many other poor choices were part of my regular menu.Oh yeah, lets not forget Coke! My nemesis!
Once I had my health scare, I started using MFP. I logged in all my food and I tried to up my exercise. My diagnosis was late March last year so as soon as all the snow was gone I started biking regularly. There were weeks where i was out on my bike every day for at least an hour and on weekends for 2 - 3 hours.
As promised by MFP, within a couple of weeks started losing weight at a rate of 1 - 2 lbs per week (there were a couple of weeks during the summer where I lost around 5 lbs). This ran steady right through until the Christmas. (Had to put the bike away about the second week of Dec once the snow came).
I now weigh 198 lbs on my way to my initial goal of 180 lbs. I expect to be at 180 before the snow melts!

As you are working out regularly. The one piece of advice I would give is to stay away from "junk" food. (Fast food, chips, soft drinks, etc.) And, try and keep as close to MFP suggested calories per day as possible. This should give you the 1- 2 lbs per week weight loss MFP promises.

Best of luck on your journey.

Thank you so much for you advice! You seem to have had an amazing journey, and your eating habits sounded just like mine, as i am busy with school and work, but i too need a change. I have health issues too and high blood pressure. Thank you again, and i really appreciate it.
