Hi everyone,

I get really confused by all the types of diets out there. What is the best for losing weight quick, is it low fat, is it low carb? or is it low sugar, low salt?

What does everyone think/know about this.

Help much appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Sophia

Low carb is the way to go - Check out Tim Ferris and his slow carb diet.... I went from 93KG to 75KG in approx. 12 weeks.

    Cheers

Thank you, I will check it out. I see it requires eating a lot of protein - am I right? Is it difficult to stick to this if I am a vegetarian?

It's the one that works for you. Personally, I don't agree with low carb, it's not something that works for me. The simple principle is to lose weight you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. How you fit that in to your life is a matter of personal preference.

Yes it's difficult (I'm vegetarian too) but not impossible. Get lots of egg whites, lentils and beans as standard, soya produce if you can, and protein shakes as well.

HOWEVER be aware of relying on high protein - low carb crash diets. While they are reliable at fast weight loss. They are not sustainable, and for your health you will have to reintroduce more reasonable carb levels after a few weeks and this is how people that follow low carb diets yo-yo so much.

You'd do better to increase protein levels and reduce processed carbs like white bread and pasta, but keep eating wholemeal carbs (rice, bread, pasta) and of course loads of fruit and veg.
