can being "blocked up" make you gain weight?

So this may be considered a little TMI, but it's something I'm curious about. As a regular co-codamol taker, one of the obvious side effects is, well, not going to the loo as regularly as one might like. I have been beginning to wonder if this is contributing to my weight gain - not just the "extra bulk" that my guts might be hanging onto in the short term, but rather my actual body - I mean, if stuff sits in the intestines longer, does it not give more opportunity for further nutrients (and therefore calories!) to be taken up by the body? Is my metabolism going to be all over slower because of stuffed up guts?! If anyone has any experience that they can input, please feel free to share!
Of course, not taking the tablets isn't an option as my back is royally scr**ed, but maybe there's something else I need to be doing to balance things out so to speak (I haven't bothered with the laxative route as it doesn't particularly bother me, I mean it all comes out eventually lol, but maybe I should?)

Thoughts?
