Hello everybody,

First of all I am very happy to have found this wonderful forum. I just created my profile and put all my information in, found out how many calories I should be eating so I'm off to a good start. Well I am 33 years old, married mom of 2. Been overweight for many years, gained 140 pounds now I am looking to take it off. I posted my reasons why on my profile. Basically in a nutshell I am not happy with how being obese makes me feel both physically and mentally so I am looking to make a huge life change. Not just to lose weight but also get healthy. I started January 1st. I know it seems cliche to start on the first of the year but this is real for me not just some new years resolution that I am going to cast aside as soon as the going gets tough. things are already getting a little tough for me, as I am up a pound and a half today for no apparent reason and its very discouraging. But I am not going to give up. I started the new year at 287 pounds and I am now at 283.4. I was down to 282 but for some reason it went up :( I've been exercising almost every single day (4 times last week) and watching my calories (around 1500 a day). It was great to see the scale drop, but then it stopped and actually went up. Also I was only able to do 15 minutes of my workout today because my back was absolutely killing me. I have a bad back and today was a bad back day. some days my back feels great, others....not so much. It can be downright debilitating at times.

Anyway I suppose I've rambled on enough about myself, I just wanted to say hi and I can't wait to get to know people and make new friends here. So, hi!! :-)

Hi Andrea_78, I'm new here too and, like you, I'm looking to lose to get fit and healthy this year. I read that you were discouraged about a slight gain so early on in your weight loss efforts. Not to worry. I've learned that in the second and third weeks, your body may go into starvation mode. Your body has gotten used to the excess calories, and now that you've reduced your calories, your body thinks it's starving and is holding on to fat and water. Don't get discouraged, soon your body will get used to the new calorie limit, and will start again to use your fat as fuel.

Starting on January 1 is not cliche'. Starting on January 1 and then quitting sometime in February, as so many people do, *is* cliche'. So, if you want to avoid being cliche' it looks like you'll have to stick with it for the long haul.
  • Welcome! I'm kinda new too and I am trying to adopt a new healthy lifestyle, hoping the weight lose will follow. Good Luck and you have my support

Hi! Good luck on your journey and don't get discouraged... I know how that is. I had this account previously and just re-entered new info to it yesterday after months of ignoring it. I would be happy to add you--having a support system or a network of friends going on the same journey might make the difference between logging on and actually holding myself accountable for the things I do, or just flaking on it entirely. Have a beautiful day. :flowerforyou:
