So I had my long run (10 miles) this weekend, training for a half marathon in April. I bought an energy gel-Gu-Blueberry Pomegranate. I cannot handle the taste nor the texture of this stuff-YECK! :grumble: :grumble: Do any runners out there have an alternative to gels for an energy supplement for the long runs? Of course, the gels are convenient, but is there anything else? I don't like powerade or gatorade since I'll have a little camelback for water, don't want to carry too much liquids! I know 10 miles isn't too long yet in terms of long runs, but for the future they will be much much longer, especially when my marathon training starts.

I like the Jelly Belly sport beans. They come in orange, lemon-lime, punch, and I think a couple other flavors? I used Vanilla Gu when marathon training... and I swore I would never take it again! Blech!

When is your half marathon? I just signed up for one April 11th, and am also doing one May 2nd! Good luck!

I also used sport beans. I did not like the gel at first but I tried different brands and flavors and I can tollerate it now. And I think it works better than the beans, maybe because of the caffine in it. I used the GU gel for my full marathon and I don't know if just the beans would have cut it for me.

Have you tried the cubes? They are like gummy bears. They will melt in extreme heat so do keep them in their baggie when you're carrying them on you.

The Sharkies? I have a friend that likes them. Also, she uses fruit snacks (the fruit smiles from Wal*mart).
