planning my garden

I have an 8ft by 8ft space I can use for a garden... due to animal, trees, and all around bad dirt here I make a container garden. So far I have 12 5gallon buckets to use for this and by spring I might have more. I made the arrangement to have space for 4 buckets with tomatoes in another area. What else should I grow? What won't cross breed? Last year we had cucalopes and squatermellons. I might have to make more arrangements to space things out. Any suggestions?
