I need a lot of help im gonna make this short and sweet since this will be the second time i'm writting it ( 1st one did'nt post and i lost alot lol)
I want to know everyones input on Calorie Counting vs Points (WW). With me Calorie counting is a big restriction i feel as if im starving by the end of the night which leads to binge eating. Some people say im not eating correctly. but If I knew how to eat correctly I would'nt look like this right? I have no idea what to do please help.
One of my friends recently joined WW and lost 9.5lbs on her 1st weigh in O M G and she does it natural no supplements nada, which is what I want.. I love cooking meals but then I have to figure out how much calories is in it and it just gets so darn confusing.
Please someone help. =(

Well unless you buy all you food from WW you will have the same problem , because you will need to know how many point is each thing and that's determine by fat , calories , fiber,etc.. It seems more complicated to me.
As for loosing your friend loosing 9 pound in one week , you have to remember that people lose weight at a different pace.
I lost 9 pounds in less than a week , but I have to take into account that I'm obese and I'm a person that loses weight extremely fast.0 -
My little sister is on WW - and calculating points isnt hard at all. You get a little device that you turn to however much fat carbs etc is in it - and it gives you the amount of points its worth.
You also get a little book of eating out - and it has soooo many restuarants/takeaways in there, and it shows you all the points that is worth.
Points are sooo easy to calculate - so you will never find a problem with it!
if you are finding counting calories hard, try WW for a month and see how it goes :-) - my sister has lost loads of weight on WW x0 -
I agree... counting calories is a pain, but I dont think that WW point are any better. I found that using meal replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch by BBV allows me to eat more of the foods I crave for snacks and dinner and not worry to much on the calories.
Although I am trying to drop my last 10lbs in 90 days and have now added cardio to my day so I am having to increase my calories... which I am strill trying to get a handle on.0 -
I do both. I tried tracking calories for a long time but the problem is, I can never figure out exactly how many calories to eat (my TDEE is 1870 but MFP set me at 1200). WW for me just takes away some of the guess work. I dont' have to worry about my calories (which fluctuate depending on which foods you choose). I just stick to my points. People will give you answers both ways but its personal preference. You are counting calories either way, WW just deals wtih smaller numbers.0

sorry but i have no idea what 5 points mean. (WW)
but i do know that cookie that i just ate has 100 calories and lots of it comes from sugar and fat. (MFP)
the difference is ACTUALLY learning what you are putting into your body.
p.s if you are starving i suggest fooling around with your intake levels0 -
I hate to tell you but... if you're feeling like you're starving counting calories, you will feel like you're starving on weight watchers. It's all pretty much the same, just presented a bit differently.
My advice: Train yourself to eat proper foods in proper portions, and forget your weight watchers fee.0 -
I think WW is awesome. I used to use it. The only thing is, and I think they have changed it in recent years, is that I could not maintain the point system forever. Eventually I would have to know what is going into my body and what is in those foods that make them not good for me. WW, at least by the old point system didn't do that. But, it is great for helping you get into a mindset to eat right.0

The simple fact is, and ww does it too, but it just makes it easier, if you eat less calories then you burn, you will lose weight.
With the phone app, MFP isn't hard for me to do. The cals it sets up for me are reasonable and work.
If you are eating alot of salad, you probably won't fill full at the end of the day, if you throw some chicken on the salad and whole grain bread with it, you will. Healthy food will keep you full and under your calories. Fiber has carbs, but that doesn't mean carbs are bad, just empty carbs from processed foods. Fiber is a dieters best friend.0 -
I personnally feel better and more satisfied using WW points vs calorie counting. I don't know why, maybe it's all in my head. Or maybe it's the fact that veggies & fruit are "free" so I fill up on those things more. I've actually been doing both, focusing on meeting my points but then tracking here to see how many calories.
Forgot to add, there is a WW app where you scan the barcode on a grocery item and it tells you how many points it is without looking up that product specifically or using your WW calculator. I felt like I was doing a gift registry, going around the store scanning things with the phone :laugh:0 -
I lost 80#'s on the old WW points system, but then....just like counting calories, meaning weighing and measuring EVERYTHING, gets boring...so I stopped doing WW. Last year when the new point system came out, I went back to WW and it is VERY expensive, bought all the stuff needed to calculate points (with the new points plan, you must have a calculator) and just couldn't stick with it, seemed like to much work and hassle plugging in all the information needed to calculate my points and it has to be done a certain way when your eating more than the serving size, it was just a pain in the rear. Then for a few I counted calories, but writing it down and all that jazz, got boring as well. Now with the app for MFP on my phone, I love counting calories and using the barcode scanner to add in my food, its so very easy!!!
Bottom line....no matter what you do, its work...weighing and measuring, keeping track..etc., etc., its work and no way around it unless you eat nothing but prepackaged meals. But I do find the MFP app on my phone the easiest thing I've ever done for tracking!!
WW is very expensive, it works if you work it, but so will MFP. If you need the added help of a weight loss group, where you weigh every week, looks for a good TOPS group in your area, very inexpensive, but you have to find a good group, some groups just meet up to get away from their husbands, kids, etc and are not focused on weight loss, but if you find a good group its very helpful. The 80#'s I lost was from not only following WW points plan, but going to TOPS for the motivation. I've gained some weight back, but I hope now with the help of MFP, I can get back on track. It was a TOPS member that told me about this site, to look for a TOPS group in your area, go to www.TOPS.org.
