Is too much protein bad for you?

It seems that on days where I have even just 1 cup of chopped up chicken, it gives me the amount of protein I need for the whole day (45 grams, one cup of chicken has 43.) So of course I've gone over. In fact, today, I'm a whopping 30 grams over!

Is this bad? I used to be severely anemic so this is a drastic change for me.

  • As long as you don't have kidney disease, or a problem with actually metabolism protein (which is rare and you would know), it's fine. Ask your MD how much protein you should have a day!!! I had a lapband and I usually get between 60 to 90 grams a day!

    Good Luck!
  • I'm wondering how important it is to get close to, but not go over, each of the daily nutritional goals.

I dont think so wats your fat ratio?
  • I just calculated my fat ratio as I had no idea (I'm so new to this.)
The site that I did it on suggests I should get at least 70 grams of protein a day, which is a huge difference than what myfitnesspal says.
My BMI is 27.9, my waist to height ratio is 0.49, I have 34.7% body fat and my lean body mass at the moment is 102.6 lbs.
That's what the calculator told me. Thank you for your answers so far!

Unless you actually have a medical issue, you would need to be in the range of 400-500g of protein to really worry about consuming too much.

In other words you are fine :)
