Lower Carb Recipes

I am wanting to put up some lower carb recipes for those who are keeping an eye on that area.
However, since I don't practice that I need a little guidance...

What is "low" carb... number wise?
What types of recipes are most sought (I tend to specialize in desserts...and focus there)?
Would it be easier if I identify them as LC (low carb) in the heading when posting?

These are some examples of desserts I found that fell in the "low" carb area:

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/44578-chewy-apple-oatmeal-cookies
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/44579-cheesecake-phyllo-cups
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/44580-frozen-fruit-cups

More like this....less like this???

Identification in the heading would be awesome. It makes it easier when I'm looking for low carb receipes.

How about low sugar, low fat , etc., as well? I have a few receipes at home that I'm going to posting that are either low sugar or low fat.

    Your thoughts

    This is a good idea.
I usually go through phases... vegetarian phase, low fat phase, low carb phase, etc when posting...
I am just struggling with WHAT constitutes low though... I mean... I am okay with downing 28g of carbs for dessert, but I get that some are watching carbs either for health reasons or diet preferences.
So, what kind of numbers should i be looking for to fit the definition of "LOW"? 15g, 10g, 5g.... ?!?!

I figure it's easy to put little hints to recipe content like:
    LC = Low carb
LS = Low sugar (usually that plays into the carbs and it tricky unless i do a specific search)
    LF = Low fat

That way when I am on a little recipe posting spree it will give those who are looking for certain things a heads up. I mean, it's gotta be heartbreaking to stumble onto a food that's carb loaded and not be able to have it.

I would keep traditional recipes just normal titles though...

    Thoughts....

Awesome idea and that definitely helps when you just want a wholesome old fashion, full of sugar, fat, and carb type receipe.

I don't really watch carbs or sugar :noway: , I'm a sodium watcher

    Keep posting

    Oi... sodium... that's a killer.
    :grumble:
Haven't done much searching on that... but I try to give pointers on how to cut back if I can find anywhere in the recipe to do so.

Well...most of my recipes I post are traditionally lower calorie versions of originals.
I try really hard never to post a dessert recipe over 400 calories (which is reasonable).
Main courses are different... I look at elements... if the recipe has carbs, vegetables, meat.... then it's basically a whole meal... toss in a salad maybe and you're good to go! So, those may get a bit higher calorie wise then something like... a new marinade for meat... or kebabs (if you are like me you want them with rice or couscous...which are additional cals on top of the recipe idea)... so I may eye lower calorie things for that.
    Does that make sense?
So, I know it seems like I am just randomly posting, but I put a lot of thought into them and actually SEE the recipes as meals before i post. I guess I could put serving suggestions with them.... Since others may not see the meal in my head.

Actually I do understand because I have a few of the receipes you have posted for deserts and when I look at mine I can see the difference.

I alter the receipe to suite my needs anyway. i.e. sea salt, splenda, unbleached flour, unbleached wheat flour, smart balance butter, multigrain pasta, etc.

Random posting of receipes, I really don't see that. I noticed that you choose receipes that can be put together with other items quick and easy. It shows that you pick and choose what is suitable for the site but every so often I love the receipe just as is and when I see those I jump for joy :flowerforyou:  :drinker:

Rice is my killer being hispanic. I have tried brown rice, jasmine rice, etc but nothing beats good old regular rice. Yes, yes I use brown rice because it's better for you but my mother must be rolling in her grave everytime I use it to make Arroz con Pollo (Rice w/chicken)

I just discovered Couscous and loved it but the sodium content on the one I tried was pretty high plus my kids don't like it LOL. I'm looking for alternatives or homemade versions but all the ones I find don't sound very good :ohwell:

Thanks for posting your receipes, I really do appreicate them with and without the changes. :flowerforyou:

Bunny, I also really appreciate your recipes - I appreciate all of the people who take the time to post here. I do not have the time or energy to get creative, so without you all, I would eat the same thing every day!

My definition of Low Carb would be less than 15g carbs per serving, net of the fiber (ie. Total Carbs - Fiber = Net Carbs). I carb cycle, and my low carb days I like to stay under 30g net for the day.

About the recipes you linked to, they look good, although I would never use regular flour in anything. I am in need of healthier lower carb meals - mine tend to be pretty high in fat.

    Thanks!

Thanks Sebidian, I will look into items that may help!
So, when I am looking at recipes I take the carb count and subtract the fiber and that will give me the net carbs for the recipe?
I too am trying to shy away from white flour stuff.... MOST of what I post can be substituted... the only catch is that it may throw off the texture a bit... Which for me I don't mind.

BX... my dad doesn't like couscous either... to tiny I think for him. He LOVES white rice (my mom is saying she'll will only cook white rice once I am gone... then they complain when their diabetes freaks out on them... :noway: kids these days). What is sea salt like in cooking, I haven't ever had the chance to use it.

    Dang it!
I am having a hard time remembering to put LC/LF on my recipes.

    I'll try to get better!
