i have heard that multigrains, whole wheat breads, granolas, and orange juice are bad things to eat. I feel like I have been dieting all wrong. I would appreciate any feed back on what anyone has heard or has experienced with many of the "so called" diet and health foods. I really want to be successful in attaining a lean figure and welcome any advice, thank you

Calories in and calories out are the basis of weight loss. It's been proven that you can eat Twinkies and chips and lose weight as well as lower your lipid profiles. Not ideal, but nonetheless it came down to calories in and calories out.
If you are getting in your daily essentials (macronutrients and micronutrients) eating the foods you mentioned above and staying in calorie deficit, you should be fine.

ninerbuff is correct. If everything fits in with your macros, you're fine. Don't overthink this.

whole grains are better than whole wheat, whole wheat is better than enriched breads.

orange juice with added sugars are worse than just plain juiced oranges.

and granolas can be anything really. i think the base is oats. which are indeed healthy for you in themselves. but then when you add nuts and fruits you up the calories and sugars. especially if they add salt to the nuts or sugars to the fruits.

you can nitpik your nutrition to death. but basically its about making smart choices.

Depends. Do you find that grainy stuff gives you an upset tummy or makes you listless? I turned out to be coeliac (gluten intolerant/ allergic) and once I stopped eating that stuff, I started to lose weight. But that's something that affects a small proportion of the population.

i try to keep myself knowledgable on nutrition, but it seems everytime i read something, its telling me something totally different from what i have read in other places. The consistent few things I have read are that sugars are bad and there are good fats and bad fats to eat. But alot of these articles are saying that diet foods are bad to eat, and i even read that cereal is bad to eat. I eat a bowl of multigrain cheerios, or total raisin bran almost every morning, and I just cant imagine that those are unhealthy things to eat.

as said above food is just food, you can lose weight from chocolate only if you want. also what constitutes good and bad?

brown rice has more calories than white rice but will keep you fuller for longer
bananas have more fat and sugar than some ice cream but also has vitamins and potassium etc
celery and lettuce barely have any calories but barely any nutritional content, whereas nuts are full of calories and proteins and essential oils

there's no such thing as super foods or good or bad ... food is food BALANCE is what counts

If you lose constantly while eating that, don't over-think it! If you are unhappy with your weight-loss, if you have cravings or feel hungry (within a normal calorie range), lower your carbs for a few weeks and see how that goes.

Sometimes I think we should stop reading about health and nutrition, it really doesn't help much!
My philosophy is that as long as most of my food has a reasonable amount of nutritional value for its calories (which to me means home cooked from actual food, not too much overly processed stuff) then the rest can be anything - I agree with calories in/calories out but want to get good nutrition into my body while I'm at it.

Perhaps they were saying avoid carbs. The whole grains are good for you and are complex carbs that give you energy. Except the orange juice. They put lots of sugar in it. Plus some say right on the container...concentrate and then I find myself just staring at it. LOL

You are better off eating whole fruit rather than just the juice so you are getting the fibre. Fibre keeps you fuller longer.

Foods are either good for your health or not good. Up to you to find the foods that result in optimal health for you.
