Tredmill - Running - Rant (TRR)

If there is one thing I enjoy, it is french foreign film. If you have not seen "the horde" on netflix, I assume the original is Le Horde, but it should be called, le heart. So whilst I sit on my couch sobbing and dropping to my knees from the shear power this cinematic epic fires directly into your soul, I have a thought, "Bill, you could totally be watching this and running." As I often think in the third person, but never speak in it.

So, I have access to a treadmill at my parents. They are old and rich and can afford things like gym memberships, so its unused. In my house I have a living room and what we call a media room. Basically a small room off of the main living room in a dutch colonial house. Right now it has a couch, CRT TV with a giant wooden case that I hate. And all of my 1.8 year old's toys. I also have an elliptical up on the 2nd floor right next to his bedroom. I can't really use it because it is loud. Bringing it into his play area, with its two sliding metal poles would most likely knock him back a few feet.

The treadmill can't fit in the toddler/media room as is. SWMBO is not receptive to putting it in the living room, even though that is clearly the way to go. My question is this: Will my son be that mad if I move all his toys to the garage? Option B would be to put the couch into the garage, for now. Also has anyone else had any stories or solutions to this?

Oh, running for the winter is kind of not going to happen as its too cold to put my son in the jogging stroller and go off into the darkness.

no advice for you, but I will tell you my treadmill is behind my couch in our media room, kind of tucked in the corner, where I can see the TV.

Why not get rid of the wooden case that you hate to make room for a treadmill or the eliptical? Or is it attached to the wall? That would be problematic.

My ideal solution would be to get rid of the case, sort the toys, donate half, and send the ones your son wants to keep to his room. It would be acceptable to keep a few tha the plays with all the time in the main livingroom. Then make the media room more of a media/exercise room.
  • I feel ya! I sold my treadmill to my sister, who loves to run on it and force her kids to go on it too. I bought myself a $100 stepper and have it behind one of the couches that leads to the laundry room. I can watch tv if I want. But, I just don't do well on machines, do I havent used it in a few months. :ohwell: I keep telling myself that once I get down to 145 I'll begin to use it, to tone up and build muscle.

That said, my neighbors use their garage as their rec room. They put their games and treadmill there, and they also have a small heater too. Their house is more spacious, too (they did a 125k renovation on their house a few years ago). I'd do it if I were you, for at least 2 weeks, and see what happens.

My treadmill, elliptical, and weight machine are in the garage. Like someone said, a small heater would help.

You can mount the heater in a place on the way you son can't reach it, then bring some select toys in there so you can still watch him while you run, giving your wife the break she wants.
