Bicycling Calories?

I was wondering if anyone out there does any bicycling? I ride between 14-16 mph for about 90 minutes usually. MFP says I burn 1119 calories in that time period. I'm wondering how accurate that is. Does anyone have a HR monitor with calorie counter that can verify that amount at that speed and duration?

I do, but I ride a cruiser (rather than a road bike), so my speed is usually about 12 mph.
Last weekend, I did a extremely hilly ride of 27 miles, took 2 hours and 35 minutes (included some walking up hills), and burned 1300 calories - average HR of about 82%.
Last fall, I did a relatively flat ride of 40 miles, took 3 hours and 30 minutes, and burned 1600 calories - average HR of about 84% (I wasn't as good then).
Around town, I usually average 450 calories per hour. It's really hard to burn more than 500-600 calories an hour, unless you are over 150 lbs. Even in spin class, I don't burn more than 500.0 -
I do about 350 -400 cals per half hour on the stationary bike. Times that by 3 and you get 1050 -1200 cals for 90 minutes. I would say it's probably pretty close. I'm 5'10, 31yrs and 220lbs. Oh, and a dude in case you couldn't tell. Max estimated HR 189.
I ride my mtn bike for 90 minutes. In the summer I can verfiy with my HRM which does cals as well. Can't ride the stationary bike that long. But I think the extrapolation above should confirm your findings.
Cheers. :drinker:0 -
Thanks. Seems like what MFP says is a pretty good guestimate. I appreciate the replies.
Chandhole, what HR monitor do you use? Do you recommend it?0
