The point of them is not to lose weight. It is to clean toxins from your body. As I am learning, there are no good ways to lose weight quickly. It got on slowly and so it goes

She will probably gain that back after finishing the cleanse. I don't mean to sound negative but a cleanse is not meant for weight loss. It is a temporary benefit from the fasting or restricted diet that goes with the cleanse

what are you doing to lose weight and how long has it taken you to lose 20+ lbs

I am eating fairly cleanly ( not much processed food) - eating a lot of fruits, veggies, lean meats and whole grains. I have given up on caffeine and mostly given up on alcohol.

I go to the gym 5 times a week and try to swim twice a week. I have been doing this since New Years and although I wish more would come off, I am happy with the results

it's mostly water weight that you lose. most (if not all!) of the weight will come back in a week or two after finishing the program. i have done two cleanses and a month after finishing my second one i was the heaviest i'd ever been.

as someone previously mentioned, the point of colon cleansing is NOT to lose weight it is to rid toxins from the body.

exercise and eating well is the best way to lose weight. do a cleanse to feel good about your body!

5 lbs is great! What do you have your goal for losing set at? I have mine set at 2 lbs per week because I have a lot to lose. I do not eat all my exercise calories

5 pounds in a month is pretty good if you ask me. I think, safely, you can lose up to 2 lbs per week and you've been loosing about 1 a week. I'm jealous! Just keep up the exercise and drink plenty of water. You can do it. :flowerforyou:

You are losing about a pound a week. That's excellent. There is no safe and effective fast way to lose weight. Slow and steady is the way to go. You'll lose the weight, have less issues with flabbiness after losing the weight, be able to maintain it, and you'll feel better.

As for the colon cleansing....your body is already well equiped to remove toxins from your body. They are a gimmick. Don't waste your money. They won't help you lose weight and they can actually make you ill, especially if they are abused.

i tried the acia burn talk about a joke. $120 down the drain
  • First of all 5 libs lost in a little over a month is a good pace. If you lose the weight right and slowly you are less likely to gain it back.

As for "colon cleanse" products, about 3 months ago I tried a product called Gravitas. It is really new and right now the only place I have seen it is at the mall in Vitamin World. It is a "Detox and Weight loss program" I lost about 12 pounds in 3 weeks., and I had so much natural energy, none of this fake caffeine energy.

I haven't tried any other products but I can say Gravitas really helped me, and helped me kick-start my weight loss I have lost about 8 pounds since running a month long Gravitas cycle.

I have nothing negative to say about Gravitas, the only minor thing is that they are pill packs you take 30 minutes before you eat, it can be a bit of a hassle. However, I was not good about taking it 30 minutes before, sometimes I would take it with my meal or even sometimes after and still had good results.

I cannot recommend or condemn any other flush or detox products.

    Hope this helps a little.
  • ajasiak,
there is no "quick" fix to loosing weight. That is the problem with our soceity now, we're used to getting everything at once and getting it yesterday. "weight loss" if you wanna call it that, requires a lot more effort than taking a pill, or getting your colon cleaned. "Weight loss" (yes I use that term VERY loosely), personally hate it ready my post Scales, Who needs 'em?" to understand my views on "weight loss" Dieting alone is useless, simply put, you're only watching your caloirc intake, but doing nothing to aid your metabolism or to aid your muscles. If you're going to "diet" you need to exercise.. it's kinda like putting gas in your car with out any oil... sure the car will start, but it won't get very far or perform very well if you leave out the oil. or vice versa. diet and exercise go together.. like peas and carrots (as Forest Gump would say) You have to add fitness to "diet" to make a real difference. Those crash diets are just no good. sure you'll lose weight on them, but as soon as you go off of it, boom you're right back to where you were or worse. Just ask people here, they can tell you. or also you can read my other post. Repairing your broken furnace (Metabolism) that will give you more info. I don't have all the answers, but I've got a pretty good grasp on the ideas on how to do it right and effectively.

Measuring during check-in would probably be better for you because the exercise you are doing would replace fat with muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat. The weight will come off, but the way you are doing it will give you a toned body that looks Oh so good.

I thnk the Crystal Light on-the-go packets add a good flavor to water. And, like someone said, measuring is key! It is a great motivator because you notice loss of inches before you notice pounds dropping off (at least that's what's happening with me). I'm going to get a tape measure tonight! Just keep at it. You're doing great!

I keep my tape measure by the computer. I only lost a pound last week but a whole inch off my waist. So don't let those scales rule your life.!!

songbyrdsweet has often (like every time this topic comes up) said the same thing. And about how clenses remove the necessary mucus that help absorb nutrients as the food goes through.

a colon cleanse doesn't mean you lose it all in water, that's absurd! it's all the ummm..don't want to be gross here,,,,let's go with."gunk" that stays like plaque does on teeth, it doesn't harm your body in any way....my hubby's doctor, who's helping him manage his way, says it's one of the best things you can do, it rids you system of all the impurities and toxins that accumulate in the colon, some people lose 2 pounds some can lose as much as 20, after it was done, my hubby lost 8 pounds, kinda gross, HE DID NOT gain it back, and nor will you if you keep following your exercise and nutition plan, it may not be for everyone, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't work or is not safe. I would definitely think that it should be something discussed with your doctor first.

your profile says you're trying to lose 85 pounds by the end of summer. you say you're not eating more than 1500 calories a day, and exercising most days. imho your goal is not realistic and you aren't eating enough! you should feel great about losing a pound a week. that's an awesome, healthy weight loss. :flowerforyou: eat your exercise calories, keep up the great work, and the pounds will come off, and STAY off.

they used to do colon cleansing a hundred years ago, so why did we stop?

My parents both did a colon cleansing, and they said that they were surprised on how much came out during the two months. But alot of companies are using it in the wrong context, it is meant to help cleanse toxins out of our bodies and is not meant for losing weight.

Actually, nothing builds up in your colon. Your colon is constantly in motion pushing the ingesta along. If "gunk" built up, people would routinely need "roto-rootering" :noway: . Your kidneys and liver are the organs that remove toxins from your body. So, in most cases, a colon cleanse is a waste of money and not likely to lead to major, sustainable weight loss. If it did, every weight loss program would routinely recommend them.

Keep up the slow, steady weight loss!:flowerforyou: You're much more likely to keep it off this way!

I've never tried a colon-cleanse product or procedure, but twice a year my boyfriend and I go on a detox diet that is basically meant to do exactly the same thing.

For two weeks we stick to these rules:
No dairy, no meat, no wheat, no added sugar, no added salt, no preservatives, no alcohol, no caffeine, no chocolate, no drinks (other than water or unsweetened hot tea), no canned or pre-made food.

We are still eating plenty of calories and getting plenty of healthy nutrition, but it's a lot of eating at home and a lot of fruit and vegetables. Also, it's really easy on the grocery bill.

**I can't vouch for any good or bad effects from the detox/colon cleansing diet. I feel more energetic when I detox, but I also miss my normal foods. But as far as any detox-style products go...I would save your money and stay far away. As far as any procedure goes...I'd also stay far away...we weren't meant to have our insides vacuumed out, your body will get to that part naturally.**
