intense cravings...

Anyone got any good advice to make cravings for unhealthy food go away?
I am seriously craving buffalo chicken dip (random, I know...) and I can't stop thinking about it. I've found a "healthified" version of the recipe for it, but let's be honest- it's still not healthy.
I know I can eat it if I stay within my calorie goals, but mainly I'm concerned about these intense cravings. I hate that I get them (different ones occur pretty regularly) and they are hindering all the progress I've made.
Any advice would help!

According to the doctor on the Today show yesterday....Your brain confuses thirst and hunger and that when you have a sudden craving, it will automatically go to the foods that comfort you most. He said to drink a glass of water and most times that WILL satisfy a sudden "hunger" you may have. I drink 96 oz of water a day (12 - 8 oz glasses) and the only cravings I get is when the food is right in front of me like the cookies my husband made last night! hahaha.....good luck. (I ate 6 cookies and had to do twice as much cardio today! lol)0

I'm still working on this one - I tend to crave chocolate - but I was reading this book about mindful eating that said to allow yourself to feel the cravings and notice them, without giving in to them. If you try to consciously NOT think about them, you'll only think about it more. You could even make a game of it, decide not to eat whatever food you are craving, but jot down the time every time you think about it. Just to kind of remind yourself that you are in control, and just because you crave something doesn't mean you have to have it.
I also think that if you fill up with lots of vegetables and fruits, you'll have so many vitamins and minerals in your bloodstream that the cravings won't be as bad.
Good luck!!0
