hi all! we're driving to az tomorrow and will be staying at mil's. she will definitely have fresh fruit and vege on hand, probably some eggs too. and i will be bringing my oatmeal, raisins, pnut butter.

so i'm not so nervous abou the drive there and back. it's when we go out for lunch and dinner.
i've worked so hard to get even these few pounds off, i don't want this short trip to ruin it. i can say no to the desserts (will feel a little deprived but worth it). but what do i eat??
i've been thinking of ordering a big house salad at each meal, with dressing on the side. and should i just pack pnut butt sandwich?? should i order plain grilled chicken breast (and eat 1/2 at lunch and the other 1/2 at dinner)?
i could do recon and pre-pick my meals, but i don't know where we'll wind up day to day.
i don't really mind this plan--just wondering what other ideas i should consider.
oh, i already told dh that i will be going on long walks each day. i really want to shed these pounds!
any input appreciated. thanks

Something I do if I don't know what kind of cals & fat I'm looking at while I'm out to eat is to just eat half of it & take the other half home. Stick to the stuff you know is healthier, stay away from the free bread, drink lots of water & watch your portions. You'll do fine! Good luck & have a safe trip! :flowerforyou:

Alot of restaurants now have healthier choices that actually tell you how many calories you are eating. So, I would go for those. If the choices are places like Wendy's or Mcdonalds....then just choose grilled chicken, & baked potato. Mcdonalds has some grilled chicken sandwiches on wheat too....or yummy salads with chicken:smile: just dont get the fries! those things are like 400 cals all by themself!!!!!!! Its hard when you go places not to overeat or to eat too many calories, but you can do it! Hope this helps.....and I hope you enjoy your trip......

    Pack some healthy snacks.

We all know fast food the easiest when driving so don't kid yourself. Go to few fast food websites (McDonald, Arby's, Burgerking etc) and look at the nutrition info. Make a list of items you can order in the drive thru of each that will not kill your diet. So when you pull off on in exit and you see a burger king sign, all you have to do is pull out your "okay to order" list.

I also do this before I go to restaurants (except I do not pull out a list).

    PS Arizona rocks!

Maybe you could decide on where you are going to eat, before you leave the house? This would allow you the time to do a little homework and make some decisions about what you would like to have?
Grilled chicken is always a plus, but be weary of slads b/c they can have a lot of high calorie and high fat toppings ... candied walnuts or pecans - scary and full of sugar. A plain house sald with added turkey or chicken and dressing on the side would be a pretty good choice.

thank you all! that list idea is great--i never thought to do that before.
and i guess if it's a rest where i really want the food, i'll do the 1/2 right at the start.
it's only a short trip, but i struggle to stay w/in my calories to begin with. so thank you for the suggestions.
one smart thing i did--measured the kids snacks into baggies so there are none for me, and i can't just nibble.
