I'm a stay at home dad, from Indianapolis, that needs to get into shape. I have been on here for 4 months and have lost 46 pounds, and would like to get another 40 or so. I would like to get more into weight lifting than mostly cardio, long term. I have never used free weights for lifting, just machines. I need that to change but don't know were to start. If your into weights, men or women, I could use some friends that could help me with nutrition, workout plans, and supplements.......Who am I kidding, I'll take any friends.

Great job on your loss so far! I only do weights on my bowflex because it's all I know how to do, so I'm no help. But congrats and good luck! You got this.

Congrats on your weight loss so far!!! Having friends, seeking advice, changing your routine, getting into free weight lifting, are all great steps to aid in continued success in both weight loss and being more fit. My #1 recommendation is for you to purchase the book "The New Rules of Lifting". Its just $12 on Amazon. Easy read, has pictures, walks you through the basic moves of weight lifting with free weights and provides not just exercise advice but overall healthier living advice. A LOT of MFPers have gained a world of knowledge with this book, including myself.

I am definitely a beginner like you. Just starting lifting this last Fall and then took a month off over the holidays. I lift at the gym 3 days a week M-W-F and run and do other cardio as well.

    Best of luck!
