Hi all,
I was just wondering what everyone thought about frozen dinners such as Lean cuisines and Healthy Choice Steamers.....
they seem to have low calories, low fat, and high protein..but are there too many carbs in these convenient little dinners??? the sodium in some seem to be fine, but alot of people say that they are processed therefore bad for you. I have been eating them for lunch alot. Please let me know what you all think
Thanks

I bring one to work everyday. My focus right now has been calories, I haven't really paid much attention to sodium content, etc. They are just so convenient, since we just have a main break room I can just stick it in the microwave0

I think they are of poor quality and loaded with sodium to make them palatable. However, they are incredibly convenient for someone who doesn't cook or can't control their portions, so I see why people do use them a lot. Bottom line- they won't hurt your weight loss effort but they aren't exactly healthy either.0

My opinion...ya gotta do what ya gotta do. They are really convenient and if it's a choice between that or fast food, a frozen dinner wins. Just watch the sodium (some have a lot more than others) and watch your sodium intake on other things.
Also, I think the companies have been attempting to make them healthier, with better ingredients and less sodium.
Besides, some of them taste really good!0 -
Sodium has never harmed my weight loss. I mainly count calories and nothing else and it works.0

So far, they work for me when I'm home by myself and I don't feel like cooking. I'm not a great cook anyways, so having one of these and popping them in the microwave does the trick.0

I eat these sometimes. Are they the absolute best thing I can eat? No, but it sure beats the fast food alternative. I try to cook more often, I am learning portion control, but sometimes a frozen meal is the best that I have time for.
Besides, I cannot come up with a "light" but good recipe for certain things. If I cooked a family portion of "diet" chicken alfredo, I would be the only one to eat it. Lean Cuisine makes a mean chicken alfredo - I like to add my own veggies to the mix.0 -
Not crazy about them. Too many carbs, not enough protein.0

You could alwasy spend one day a week cooking "freezable" meals that way you know what you are eating and can make to how you want them. There are alot of things that are easy to make and able to be frozen such as quiches (make them with or without eggs), homemade hotpockets, any type of pasta dishes and if you havent tried soba noodles you should. They are also gluten free so even better for you! Try looking on Pinterest.com...its a fun website and also have a bunch of food ideas and exercise/work out stuff.

Thanks Guys! Rebeccawalker, i like your idea. You can even make dinners that are similar to lean cuisines and put a chicken breast and some veggies in a few containers for the week. this way you know exactly what you are eating and the sodium levels wont be high. Hmmm, i might do this. Also i will look for Soba noodles as i love pasta.0

That is great hun, but if you are looking to be heart healthy like me, you should look at the sodium and cholesterol too.
