What to do about my running shoes

I got new running shoes at the beginning of the year, and yesterday had my first non-treadmill run in them. By evening my middle toe felt like the toenail was going to fall off (it isn't, but that's the way it feels). I hadn't had issues on the treadmill, so I assumed they fit right, but I guess not. This is a new style shoe for me. Should I try going up a half size, or should I try a whole different style of shoe (i.e. is it the fit, or is it the curve of the toe area?)? Any thoughts?

How did they fit when you first tried them on? Are your toes at the edge? If so, buy a new pair at LEAST a half size larger.

You should have the width of a thumbnail at the most between your big toe and the end of your shoe (half to a full thumbnail's width). If your toes are hitting the end of the shoes, get a half size bigger.
