Yup...I take them. Honestly, the only reason I started was because I read of you put a serving of seeds in water and mix it up it'll fill you up and it's a great way to lose weight(clearly this was before MFP where I would try any gimmic) My take? They dont REALLY fill you up THAT much, but their nutritional benefits are through the roof. I dont try and take heaping spoonfuls at a time because the texture is NASTY, but a sprinkle here and there in food and you dont even taste it. I add a tiny bit to my yogurt, a bit in my pasta mixes, little things you wont notice. I figure what harm can they do???
  • I've been using Chia seed for a month or so now. I agree that they may not be as filling as claimed, but I do think they are helping to control my blood sugars, which is what was touted in the first newspaper ad I saw. The reason I think that it is helping with my blood sugars is that I stopped taking it for a couple of days and my averages were definitely higher. I don't know whether that might be from just what I happened to eat those two days, but the averages did go back to where they were when I started using the seeds again.

I first tried the whole seeds and used them in yogurt, sprinkled on salads and breakfast cereal, added them to banana bread, and sprinkled on casseroles and pasta dishes. I didn't mind the texture. When I finished the container of the whole seeds, I decided to try the ground version. I think it is a little easier to handle texture-wise. I added it to my homemade hummus today too. I have been trying to do at least two tablespoons a day. I don't know if the ground seeds have less nutritional impact than the whole. I haven't found anything on the web that says.

I bought my first container at Whole Foods Market but when I went back, they didn't have the brand that I bought originally. My local store is carrying the Salba brand now, which is kind of a brand name, and therefore, more expensive. I'm going to look around at other health food stores in my area to see what I can find.
