Sodium is killing me!

Sodium has been my downfall lately. I just can't seem to stay under the 2500 I'm allotted. Does anyone have any good, filling, low-sodium foods or meals they'd like to share? Thanks!

My experience, it is very very hard to accurate record sodium because everything contains it. Other than watching carefully all the nutrition info and control the table salt there is not too much to be done. As a rule of thumb the table salt is 20% of the sodium already contained in food.

Also, avoid pretty much all prepared foods. Canned soups, bread, boxed cereals, frozen prepared meals and all restaurant food, especially fast food (McDonalds etc)

Oatmeal is great fro breakfast, salads for lunch & lean protein & veggies for supper.

Also, lots of fruits & nuts (no salted)

As for cooking, there are more & more no salt added canned vegetables, especially tomatoes & beans.

    Best of luck.

Quaker Apple Cinnamon Rice Cakes topped with 100% almond butter (the kind you have to stir)= filling, sodium free treat.

    ZERO SODIUM!!

I also avoid canned veggies and opt for fresh or frozen. I avoid canned goods in general. Low sodium means a LOT of cooking things for yourself. I spend a lot of time looking at nutrition labels, but my sodium is almost always below 1800mg a day. I actually lowered my intake value on my MFP goals.

    Good luck.

I agree - avoid the processed foods. Try to eat clean! I try not to eat a lot of processed foods, and the other day my sodium intake was 800 - and that was including 300 for the popcorn I ate. lol When I make meals, I don't add any salt during cooking, I prefer to use other spices for flavouring.
