Ok so what is all the hype about Protein shakes? I read a few Topics on here and i went out and bought GNC Protein Isolate but i can't decide if i even really need it for the workouts i am doing...

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week where i run on the treadmill or use the elliptical machine for an hour and then do about 30 min of weight training for my upper body. On the other days i go for fast walks with my 20 month old in the stroller and i go running at night or do a jillian workout dvd.

Where are the experts? Please tell me what you think...thank you

Nicole

protein shakes are generally not needed unless you are muscle building if you drin them when you dont need them they can actually make you gain weight if you are eating proper nutrition and working out like that yu def dont need them

Protein supps are a cheap convenient way to help you reach your protein needs for the day, if you can hit your macros with food then do so. But if your on the go or are strapped for time a scoop or two of protein can help. I usually require about two scoops a day to reach my protein macros. If your trying to put on some muscle then look to whey for it's superior amino acid profile.
  • I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't looking to gain muscle, which I'm guessing you aren't judging from your high cardio workouts. If you are extremely low on your daily protein goal than it is an option, but so is more lean meat, dairy, legumes & protein-rich veggies.
