a home made recipe?

i bought all the ingredients for taco soup. all the cans of this and that are staring at me - mocking me - because i am terrible at math and dont know how to calculate the calories per serving

i wrote this down the other day:

'add everything, divide by calories'

but i dont know what that means exactly...i tried using a recipe calculator on another site but it did me no good.

can any one help? sorry im such a lameo...:indifferent:

ok, stick with me people <--- severely lameo

so, add everything as in each can of goodies divided by 2 cups?

i am making soup, so i have 5 cans of beans and veggies to add. so take all the cans (+other stuff) and add the entire can or just the amount per serving then divide by 2?

    so cornfused...

Okay... I read another post about this before, and THEY said to add everything under whatever meal... Like for dinner hypothetically, I would put:

    chicken broth, 16 oz
    chicken breast, 8 oz
    salsa, 4 oz
    tortilla chips, 12 chips

then I'd click on add as meal(?)
afterwards, it'll be listed as whatever you name it, on your meals, like chicken tortilla soup.
delete everything off of your dinner
add "chicken tortilla soup" to your dinner
and then change the portion to whatever amount you had... Like I'd put .25 of meal. I hope I helped and didn't make you more confused...

I think it's add EVERYTHING you are putting in the soup.
Ex: 1 can of beans, 1 can tomatoes, 1 can corn.....
THEN divide all of the above by however many servings you get.
I am guessing you measure out all the servings.... to be accurate.
YOU ultimately decide serving size.... 1 cup, 1.5 cups, 2 cups....

I am guessing... it's a good question... I just use the computer to do it.

this web site figures out the nutritional data in your recipies.

oh, yea i tried it but it came out to be like 2000+ calories and that is just impossible. well, at least i hope so! otherwise ill br bringing a nice batch of soup to my non-dieting co-workers...and charging $5 for each bowl :smokin:

You crack me up!!! I used the method I posted earlier for something I made in my crockpot... At first it looks scary, because you see a tremendous amount of calories listed under that meal, but once you change the serving amount, it's much more reasonable. Plus, once you enter the meal into the database, it's there for the next time you make it!!!

:flowerforyou: If you list all the ingredients in the recipe, MFP will tell you how many calories, etc. in the whole pot. You'll have to decide whether you (by yourself) are going to eat the whole pot, or half of it , or one fourth of it or what. Then you know what to divide by.

If the whole recipe is 2000 calories and you are going to eat one fourth of it, then divide by 4. If your are going to eat one eighth of it, then divide by 8. If the answer comes out to too many calories, it might be because you have made something with too many calories.

It can be so confusing to figure out all this stuff, but once you do it a couple of times, it gets much more easier!!! It's nice to know I'm not the only one having issues learning it!!!
