I am sticking to my calorie goal about 70% of the time. If I do go over it is only by a 100 calories or so. Once a month I may go really over. But I am exercising 5 to 6 times per week. Mostly cardio (Xbox Your Shape & Treadmill) and then Bowflex and resistance bands. I am 5'8" and goal weight is 170lbs. BMI says I burn about 3100 calories per day with out a workout. I can't seem to figure out what is going on. I dropped a lot from 215 to 207 then stopped and keep going in between 207 and 205. Anyone have any ideas?

I am absolutely not an expert on this but I've read a little about it on MFP. It can be one of two things. Either you are eating more calories than you should or not eating enough. Both are equally bad from what I've read. Are you sure of the calories your are burning? Alot of the estimates in MFPs database are high. I use a heart rate monitor to give a more accurate account of what I burn. Your BMR seems high too, we are close to the same size and mine was only 1865. At the other end of the spectrum I've read that if you don't eat enough calories your body will resist burning fat stores for energy. Theres lots on this topic in the MFP forums.

    Good luck!

Change something up! Your body is used to whatever you are doing. Also remember, its a LONG TERM comittment!
  • i am basically having the same problems this week, i would think the same as you i am eating less calories than my daily allowance is by up to 300-400 sometimes less aday or i have ate up tp about 100 calls less but the weight isn't shifting as i would have thought it would, i have been and bought a new set of kitchen scales today so i will religously be weighing everything from today instead of guessing . if that doesnt work not sure what to do good luck hun x

I'd say you need to drop the calories if you are eating around 3000 a day right now. Make sure you are eating quality calories as well. not just whatever fits in under your daily goal.

I agree. That sounds really high.

another vote for re-evaluating what calories your body requires + getting a heart rate monitor for improved accuracy on how much you're burning.

Not sure what your diet is like but you should probably cut back on red meat. I imagine you can see changes in the mirror tho? Our bodies appreciate whole foods like nuts, seeds, fruits and lots of veggies. They aren't made for processed food and too much meat which can throw off your weight loss goal. You might consider diet changes for a bit to kick start your plateau.

I'm not a specialist but I am currently reading Super Immunity, by Joel Fuhrman MD and for the last few years have been trying to educate myself on good natural nutrition.

take it or leave it but best of luck to you.

Sounds familiar. I could've written this exact post. I am soooo frustrated. I feel soooo defeated and it makes me want to give up. HOWEVER, I am not going to give up. I am thinking of taking a break and eating at "maintenance" for a week. Maybe it will give my body some extra food and I will start to lose weight again when I cut calories again.

For the record, I can't seem to get under 128 lbs. My scale will say 128.8, 128.2, 128.6, 128.2, 128.8. I am fairly close to my goal. My BMR is 1241. I am 5'1. I am slightly active and MFP had me set to eating 1420 a day for .5 lb weight loss a week. I have a Polar FT60 HRM, so I know that isn't the issue. Just soo frustrating to be so close and my body just doesn't want to give up any weight.

Did you ever break the 128 barrier? Sounds like your metabolism has stalled. Try loading up on carbs 1 night good carbs, sweet potatoe, grapefruit, brown rice.... That might just smack your metabolism in the face and get it going again!

Nope, I never broke the 128 barrier. I was thinking my metabolism might have stalled and that's why I was thinking of switching to "maintenance" for a week. Thanks for the advice---I might have to try that instead.
  • Thanks for all the responses. I thought 3100 on the BMI was high but wasn't sure. I checked it on several websites. I do have a heart rate monitor that I use religiously and I deduct 90 calories from whatever it tells me I have burned since I would have burned that just in daily activity that hour. So if I worked out for an hour and a half and burned 800 calories, I put it in MFP as 720 calories. Also I have MFP set to sedentary (I can't spell it) and told it I want to lose the max of albs per week and it set my calorie intake to 1290. So I do that then add my 720 cals of exercise and I get 2010 calories for the day. Maybe 70-80% of the time I go to 2150 or 2200 and once every 10 or so days I may even go as high as 2700. Someone posted I needed to change up my exercise routine instead of just doing the treadmill, so now I started incorporating my Xbox system and doing that cardio. So I do a little treadmill, a little bike, Xbox and then crunches and the bow flex. But I still sit here stalled at 206 lbs. I just worked out now and had a protein shake.
