How much training is too much?

So I have recently started training for my first 5k. I am using an app and getting better every day. I have now become somewhat "addicted" to training. My first session I was nearly in tears b/c my legs hurt so much, but now I can't wait until my next workout. For my first race i am only really looking to finish in a reasonable amount of time with no walking and I'll try to iimprove from there. I'm using an app that has me running only 3x a week but sometimes I will do two lessons in a day or back to back days.

I've been trying not to do that too often because I've heard all the warnings about "over training" and injuries. I also am having trouble eating all of my calories as it is and don't need to burn any more but will increase my calories when needed.

My overall question is, is it ok for me to run twice a day for 30min? Do I have to take days off? I'm not running TOO hard (all of the sessons are run/walk intervals) but when I run I do push myself.

Thanks for the help!

Also, just for clarification, on my Run intervals should I really push or go for an easy pace? I've seen people say "if you can't hold a conversation then you need to slow down". I just dont' feel like I'm getting much better if I run slower.

    Thoughts?

Your body really does need rest days so it can rebuild. To run a total of 60 minutes a day every day isn't giving it much of a break. Giving yourself a day off from heavy training every 2-3 days will help you prevent injury and recover faster.

During those rest days, you can work on stretching exercises to increase your flexibility, so you don't feel like the day is wasted.
