Basketball Weight Loss?

I have always loved playing basketball, let me clarify, I have always loved shooting the ball around. I haven't been in good enough shape to really "play". But I have lost quite a bit of weight over the past two years, about 85 pounds. I'm on the home stretch only about 30 more to go.
But I started really playing hard, with different guys at the rec. Usually about 2-3 games of 3 on 3 half court, or 5 on 5 full-court. I started that last friday, done so about 3 times and have lost about 5 pounds in the last week.
Is this 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours of vigorous, heart-pumping cardio, basketball playing every other day enough to justify losing that much weight in a week, or is that most likely just water weight?
Thanks to all who reply,
And to all, keep up the good work. We are fighting the good fight for our health.
And thanks to all that keep me inspired.

It could be a loss, especially since this is something new to your body. You know how your body doesn't repsond to some exercises when it gets used to them. My advice is to see what happens next week when you weight in.0

You body will react to different types of workouts. That's why it's good to change it up a bit. I played basketball four years of basketball in college. It is possible to lose that much, espeically since you are just starting to go hard at it! yes, some is water weight, but I'm sure out of those five pounds it was at least 2-4 pounds lost! Great job!
Good luck and kick some on the court!0 -
I agree, I bet it's a loss. I do the same thing. I play every Tuesday night for a couple hours (with rests in between) and it still does more for me than my almost daily 35 minutes of jogging. Those intense full court games will do it. And it's so much funner than mindless running. Keep it up.0
