HCG Diet

Hey everyone,

I've been doing HCG for a while (2 weeks on and off) and would love to know what other people thought of the diet that DID it... I understand there are people out there who HATE this diet, and would rather it disappear, but for the people that have suffered through the low calorie diet, let me know what your loss was, and how you liked it!!

The HCG diet is a dangerous scam. The only reason people lose weight on that plan is you are only allowed to eat 500 calories a day. HCG has been scientifically proven to do NOTHING to help with weight loss or to make it safe to eat only 500 calories a day. It will not protect muscle, reset your metabolism or do anything else the snake oil salesmen that sell it claim. Dr. Simeons was a quack doctor. His "HCG protocol" has absolutely NO scientific backing and is not worth risking your health on.

Please read the articles on these websites before you try HCG. I know some people that put their faith in the HCG diet, and became very ill from malnutrition as a result. It is NOT safe! I hope you can return the HCG stuff and get your money back.

The Government is now in the process of getting all that fraudulent stuff off the market, and it's about time!

There should be a group for HCGers. You might try there. Conversations on the main forums about the HCG diet get shut down fast- most people (me included) think it's a dangerous fad and don't like seeing it out here in the open.

    I believe independent peer-reviewed studies.

Such as the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (The effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the treatment of obesity by means of the Simeons therapy: a criteria-based meta-analysis.Br J Clin Pharmacol. 1995 September; 40(3): 237–243)

"We conclude that there is no scientific evidence that HCG is effective in the treatment of obesity; it does not bring about weight-loss of fat-redistribution, nor does it reduce hunger or induce a feeling of well-being.”

I used the HCG drops for several months last year....I lost quite a bit of weight and was not hungry. Unfortunately, I nearly lost myself too. My doctor had a fit when she found out i was taking them. It is the most unhealthy and dangerous thing you can do for yourself. Try weight watchers or something proven to be healthier.

There is only one thing that HCG is definitely guaranteed to help you lose and that is money.

The only reason people lose weight doing HCG is because of the VLCD (which is bordering on the level of an ED).

You will lose weight but it will mostly be muscle mass rather than fat. There is also the additional side-effects of doing such a VLCD. It includes: losing your hair and wrecking your metabolism.

    Where is your tinfoil hat?

HCG injections do nothing for weight loss and homeopathic drops do less than nothing

Stein et al. Ineffectiveness of human chorionic gonadotropin in weight reduction: a double-blind study. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol 29, 940-948

"HCG does not appear to enhance the effectiveness of a rigidly imposed regimen for weight reduction."

OP no one has to "suffer" with their diet, eat foods you like, get adequate protein and fats with a moderate calorie deficit and dieting will be a breeze

    Dear Posters,

MyFitnessPal strongly recommends that our users follow the calorie guidelines automatically assigned by our site, unless they are under the direct supervision of a doctor. We are currently reviewing the medical literature on the HCG/500 calorie diet and reserve the right to moderate against discussions of this diet at any time in the future.

For the time being, HCG discussions remain an option for members in the Groups section. Please remember that even in Groups, all site wide rules must be correctly moderated, or the Group runs the risk of deletion. Specifically, endorsement of purchasing prescription supplements or medications without a prescription is in violation of the MyFitnessPal posting guidelines, which can be reviewed here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/guidelines

Thank you all for your concern. We're definitely looking closely at this issue.

    Regards,
    Steven
