WHere does the skin go?

For those of you who have been successful at losing a lot of weight (CONGRATULATIONS, by the way)...where does the excess skin go? I'm curious only because I have a long-term goal of over 100 pounds to lose. I've had two c-sections, and I have a feeling I will just always have that part of my skin with me that is currently my floppy belly! SO?

The skin doesn't go anywhere, just like fat cells don't go anywhere, they simply change. Your skin will contract, although more slowly than most of us would like, as your fat shrinks. Genetics, diet and other lifestyle factors play a role. The best bet is to lose at a healthy rate (1-2 pounds per week), exercise, stay well hydrated and make sure you're getting a good amount of protein and healthy fats.
I've read that it can take up to 2 years for your skin to contract after losing weight but as I said, genetics, or even prolonged obesity can hinder this. The skin can only contract so much.
I know it's tough on our vanity (I'm dealing with plenty of loose skin myself right now) but we all have to get past it and concentrate on getting healthy as that's the main goal.0 -
