Hey friends! I'm looking into doing the Super Spartan Race at the end of this month and wanted to know if any of you have done this 8 mile obstacle course. How hard was it, and would you do it again? Any advice or info is greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

I did the Midwest Spartan Sprint in Oct. It was advertised as only 3/3.5 miles but it ended up being closer to 4.5 with brutal conditions and many more obstacles (after the event they renamed it a mini Beast it was so hard). I truly loved every minute of it. I'm not a runner by any means (and I was doing the event with torn cartilage in my knee) and definitely was not in the shape I needed to be, but I was able to get around the course ok. It is definitely hard - be prepared for lots of hills and carrying things (tires/buckets) up those hills. The best advice I can give you is to wear appropriate attire - stay away from cotton clothing as it will hold in the water/mud, wear shoes with good grip (I wore Merrell's barefoot shoes and they worked well), and wear weightlifting or padded gloves (many of the obstacles require you to carry or hold onto things - it's a lot easier with gloves). But truly the main thing is to have fun. Unless you plan on winning the event, don't worry about your time. There is a lot of teamwork and people helping other people all along the way. Take it all in and enjoy it!
