"pulled" ab muscles

Stupid question I suppose but can you "pull" as in over exert ones ab muscles? I took a rest day yesterday as they were aching and then when I tried to do a plank today (30 DS) I had such a sharp shooting pain in my lower abs that I cried out. I've always done lots of ab exercises and have never had a problem, it seems strange...
Should I stick to just cardio until they feel better?

I overtrained my abs before Christmas to the point where i couldn't sit up without rolling onto my side and even walking felt sore. I tried to train through but it hurt. I'd def do whatever cardio you can without it hurting, don't aggrevate it any more. Even cardio will require you to use you core muscles still so take it easy and rest a bit.0

Yep, I have to roll on my side to get up, just noticed that when trying, very inelegantly, to get out the bath earlier. Have taken some codeine. Damnation, I was doing so well and I don't want to break my momentum.
