Bodybugg worth it?

I'm on a really tight budget. Do you think the bodybugg is worth it?

  • Really, that just depends on how anal you are about the specific numbers. That can give you very accurate data as to what you are burning, but whether that is important depends on the eye of the beholder. Frankly, your 'in calories' are going to be relatively inaccurate, too (even if you are logging right, food manufacturers have a tendency to tweak the numbers lower than they really are).

Most of what we deal with here are generalities, so unless you are obsessed with making sure you have the right numbers, or you have reason to suspect a huge variance, then it probably isn't necessary.

I got one and it was really neat at first. It gave me a accurate reading of what I was burning through the day but if you are on a tight budget I would look into some other less expensive models like the Fitbit or a regular heart rate monitor.

Just entering your calories and exercises on this site is all you really need to get things going. I lost about 20 pounds a few years ago just using this site but then I quite and gained it all back plus some more so I am starting over. I'm not renewing my membership with the bodybugg because it really doesn't make you loose any faster it just gives you more accurate information.

I have the BodyMedia Fit which also tracks your sleep quality and calories burned...worth every penny! Best investment I've ever made...
  • I love my bodymedia Core, which is the same as the BB - just gathers more information. I have been using it for a year, and I love it - it keeps me on track.

If you're on a budget, wait until you see them on sale. They will go on sale several times a year and you can get them as low as $139 from BodyMedia, or through Amazon. I have seen BB on site at the Apex Fitness site for as low as $99. The monitoring is as low as $6.95/month.

I don't know how accurate Fitbit is, I've never tried it, but it's around $99 - I was talking to someone about it earlier and looked up the price.

You could also do an HRM, and you can find those as low as $50 with no monthly subscription. There are a bunch of HRM users at MFP who could recommend models that are accurate for you!

Just like you I was un a tight budget and wondering if the bodybugg, bodymedia fit or fitbit was worth it. I ended up getting the bodymedia fit core (BodyMedia is the same company that makes BodyBugg). I got mine at Costco way cheaper than from their website or any other retail store and to be honest I'm super happy about it. Btw, their site and other sites say it comes with a 3 free months subscription, when I got mine from Costco it came with a 6 month free subscription already.

It is supposed to be 90% accurate, I can totally deal with that. Does it help? Hell yeah it does. Am I using it everyday? 24 hours a day to be more exactly lol.

I've got one I bought off ebay and it is cool - it's not that it helped me lose weight - but it is probably more accurate on your cals burned and that could be a big help. The subscription is expired for me so right now it is kind of useless - message me if you want this gizmo and for the price of shipping it's yours (you'll need to do your own subscription online to make it work again.)

I just got a Bodybugg for Christmas and I think it's worth it. Could I lose the weight without? Absolutely, I lost 92 pounds without a Bodybugg. I used to use a HRM when I worked out so I could accurately track how many calories I was burning during a workout.

Just depends on you.....the Bodybugg is a little more pricey than a HRM that's for sure. I know once my subscription is up with the Bodybugg, I probably won't renew it. I did also get the digital display for the Bodybugg so I can tell how many calories I burn a day without uploading to the Bodybugg site.
