Protein shakes in the evening?

I am a teacher, so I workout in the late afternoon/evenings during the week. On days I workout later, I have a small dinner so I am not working out on an full stomach. On the later workouts I don't get home from the gym until 7:30 or 8:30...should I have a protein shake afterwards, even though it's late or just not eat anything? On those days it seems like I'm shorter on calories because I eat a smaller dinner...

Just stay away from carbs at night.. I have protein shakes in the evening.. otherwise I'd go nuts!0

I'm wondering the same thing, except I don't get home from work until 7:30, so I usually eat around 8, then go to do my cardio @ 8:45 and don't get back home until 10. I usually just mix my protein powder in soy milk.0

Curious as your reasoning for staying away from carbs at night, is there something that makes them particularly bad at night?0 -
It doesn't matter what time you eat. Enjoy a shake after your workout if you want.0

Timing doesn't matter (this includes carbs). Look at your calories and macros, not the clock.0

I just got home from the gym at 9 and I had a protein shake and ate .
Like i hear all the time on MFP if you have the calories go for it.0 -

Not necessarily. Just something I stick to as I tend to stay up late and carbs tend to be higher in calories.0 -

Good thread.... I started the protein shakes at night after workouts this week. I love it! It's my sixth meal and I always have room for them in my calorie goal. And I feel like I'm taking care of my body after a workout. I'm not burnt out on them yet, lol. The puddings are a great suggestion - thanks!0
