Could someone take a look at my food diary and tell me what they think. I've been trying to read posts on sodium intake etc but having trouble understanding it (Duh!) We tend to eat a lot of the same foods as I'm very picky with meat & veg, but eat salad on a daily basis. Thanks.

Just to warn you, a LOT of people are going to tell you to eat more. Aka everyone. Haha.

Yeah I thought that one, but I have a really small appetite. It's actually more than I used to eat before joining MFP. I never ate breakfast and usually skipped dinner so I'm quite chuffed with myself to have started eating what I have. I will hopefully keep building my calories up.

Repost when you've completed your diary for the day. If you already have then you need to start eating way more food.

Would you please let us know your height and current weight so that we can visualise you to some extent.

The main things that bother me about your diary are:

    1. Please don't reduce your calorie intake to less the 1000 calories - at least 1200 calories is preferable. On one day your exercise amounted to 780 calories with a net of 950 calories so reducing your food to so little is going to deplete/waste your muscles

    2. Most of your food is eaten at dinnertime - please try and have a more substantial breakfast and lunch - going to bed within 2-3 hours of a meal can be detrimental

I do wish you well on your journey but please be caring towards yourself and get adequate nutrition

One immediate observation I could add is to have more at breakfast. Perhaps porridge or cornflakes and slice up the banana to add to it. The rest of your day seems to be good and healthy (albeit the proviso already mentioned about eating more!). Hope this helps.

Hi x I think maybe try cutting out crisps....they are what are screaming salt at me. I know that will cut you calories more, but do you like rice pudding and yogurts? Muller rice is really filling and are around 200 cals each :)

Also if you add your food using your mobile just before you click 'add now' you are able to see the nutritional values of the foods you are adding, so maybe you can keep an eye on it that way too.

    Good Luck x

First thoughts is are you are drinking enough water (This includes water, tea, coffee, soda etc.)?

Sodium (Salt) and other nutrients are water soluble and are carried around the body in the bloodstream.

I tend to take a little too much salt, however, I normally have 1.5 - 2 litres of water a day, which takes any excess away (Hopefully!)

You can normally tell if you are drinking enough as your urine will be "straw" coloured - most of the time.

Any darker than this and you are not drinking enough. Build up your water intake slowly but don't overdo it.

    Hope this helps

I drink about 5 cups of tea a day and I'm trying to up my water intake but I'm not a huge fan of the taste, just upping it a little every day

Someone has posted this link elsewhere in the Forums today and I think it is a really easy to understand guide to calorie requirements and how to adjust what we eat to our personal goals.

When you read this I think you will understand why we are urging you to up your calories - too high a calorie deficit will actually cause your body to resist losing weight especially if you are exercising vigorously as it will defend itself against a perceived food shortage.

With regards to not feeling like eating breakfast, it may be the sluggish digestion of your previous night's dinner that causes this lack of interest in food in the morning. It may help to reduce your food intake in the evening for a while and see if it revs up your interest in eating breakfast.
