How do you keep your veggies (especially lettuce) fresh longer??

I put my loose produce in plastic bags in the veggie drawers. Some stuff - mostly fresh herbs I will wash first then wrap in a paper towel while still damp and put in a plastic bag.

My rule is usually if it is stored cool at the store it goes in the fridge, if not I store it on the counter. I do put really ripe bananas in the fridge and that makes them last a bit longer.

I usually buy boxed spring mix or baby romaine for salad and that lasts about a week, I am not much help there.
  • For lettuce or spinach, I use a salad spinner to wash it, then lay it out to dry, pat it dry, then put into tupperware with a small square of a paper towel on top, to absorb extra moisture. Plus then it's already clean and chopped (I go ahead and chop or tear if it's large pieces, like romaine lettuce) when you want to eat it. Asparagus, herbs, anything with a cut end is wrapped on the bottom with a damp napkin and put back in the fridge.
