From being on many diets and reading many labels I found that I can guess-timate calories pretty well. And know many staples like fruits, veggies, some snacks off by heart. And I just want to say that be aware many of the submissions on the site are a little off, so if something looks too good to be true, or too calorie-filled for the portion. You should definitely look it up online to confirm, or take into account how the item was prepared for example a ham sandwich can range so much depending on toppings and bread etc. Anyways I guess I am saying be aware of what you are eating and don't take all the numbers to heart, cheers!

A good website for confirming calories is http://www.thecaloriecounter.com/. You can search for a food you're unsure of and chances are it's on there.

I agree that many of the foods in the database are off and when that happens I edit them.

I also will edit any submission that is off....I guess it's the OCD coming out!!

That's the best thing to do..edit the wrong one's when you come across them. A lot of times people will just enter the calories for the food and not any of the other nutritional info.

I always check what's entered in the database with the item I have. If the info is correct, I confirm it. If it's wrong or incomplete, I edit it. In my case, for your ham sandwich example, I always enter the individual ingredients. I'm paranoid about the info being wrong!
