Hey everyone. My husband surprised me yesterday with a sportline s12 HRM. It doesn't have a chest strap. Well, I tried it yesterday and did the wii fit free run for 10 mins just to check it out. it said i burned 61 cals in 10 mins. MFP gave me 64 so I was thinking alright this is pretty accurate.

Well today after 30 mins of zumba it said i only burned 130 cals.

I am 24, 5'2, weigh 222.9 lbs. On average a 150lb person will b urn 250 cals in 30 mins of zumba. I'm thinking that this is not right.

I'm probably going to take it back to the store to get a new one. I know Polar users love their HRMs but i don't have the money to spend on a polar hrm. What HRM do you use?

That is definitely not right. I burn 630-830 per hour of Zumba! Even at a low intensity & using a DVD/game instead of a class, you should get more than 130 I would think! I have a Polar ft4. It's the cheapest Polar one & I love it! You can get it from Amazon for just $60, which is cheaper than most stores have it for! http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Womens-Heart-Monitor-Bronze/dp/B001U0OFD2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326554578&sr=8-1

Thanks! The only problem is I have a gift card to walmart and I wanted to use that towards my new HRM. I am going to return the one that I got yesterday which will give me $37 back. so I'll have like $62 to spend on a new one. online at walmart.com it says they have a proform tx 300 in a store in my city and it comes with a chest strap. I was wondering if anyone uses this one and if it's good to get. If not I just may purchase a MIO online at walmart.com for $50. Not sure yet.

I did zumba with a HRM for the frost time yesterday and it said I burned 257 in 60 minutes. I would get one with a chest strap ..

Amazon has some Polar's in the $40s; the WalMart prices on Polar are way high.

I think you can get Polar at Walmart.. Or just save up until you can afford a Polar.

Cheap ones are just that.. Cheap. As you found out, ones without a chest strap don't work unless you touch them constantly to update the heart rate/calorie reading.

I have a New Balance HRM with a chest strap and so far I like it. I got it at Costco and it was only 50 bucks (the one I really want is about $200 and thats so not in the budget but $50 was doable)
