Veggie Here!

I started college 4 years ago and though the dining commons are pretty nice (for meat eaters), as a vegetarian I found my nutrition taking a dive and I began to consume more carbs to keep me going, and lost a lot of weight and muscle tone. But then it started going the other way after a while and I started gaining weight through fat. So I've started maintaining a healthier diet now, and working out 4 times a week. Though I don't have much of a set goal to lose weight, I want to gain muscle tone back. Let's hope I can make this happen!

  • Feel free to add me as a friend. This is my first time on this site. The people seem very friendly and supportive. I choose this route instead of Wieight watchers because it's free and I can learn how to eat correctly. I hope you like the site.
  • Thanks!! I also think that the community here is super friendly and really nice in general. The food tracker has already helped me lose around 2 lbs, so I'm all pumped for more! (Added you!)

I agree with the commons food until we got a new company at the university where I work, they are working hard to provide lots of healthy alternatives all over campus. Maybe the students should do as ours and rise up and demand either better choices or a new provider. Anyway, welcome to MFP, lots of fun folks and good advice.

Add me too and see my group for Health Recipes!
  • My campus has some pretty good vegetarian options, but the problem is it gets extremely repetitive and there's little to no variety sometimes, and that mostly causes my cravings to eat out and have "tastier" food. Doesn't help that I'm Indian, and grew up vegetarian because I'm used to flavorful and diverse food items pretty much for every meal (at least at home).

So now, I'm trying to just keep track of my calories, going to the gym daily and doing cardio/muscle training. Hopefully this works out!

Welcome! I'm veggie too... It can be really hard to find interesting/healthy veggie options at school/eating out, etc... it can be a real pain. There's lots of great groups and great people on here though- you'll get a lot of great suggestions and tips, even if you just need a little inspiration for what to cook- I know I have!

Thanks so much. This community and app has pretty much changed my lifestyle!

Hello. I'm new here and a lifelong vegetarian (medically necessary)

I have a lot of dietary restrictions and that makes being a vegetarian difficult.

perhaps we can exchange meal ideas, recipes, or something related to that?

    Hello!

I've been off meat for about 10 years now, and glad for that choice.

Some environments can be tough. Just keep trying, planning ahead helps a lot too!
  • Thanks guys! I've basically never eaten meat (partly because of upbringing because both my parents are vegetarian, and partly by choice because I just couldn't picture myself eating meat). While at home, I cook healthily and have a set of great recipes that my grandmother and mom put together, but here in the dorms, it's so hard to find vegetarian food that doesn't involve excess fat (food other than pizza, fries etc). So I'm constantly on the lookout for healthier options like getting hummus and eating small snacks instead of large meals and so on. Please add me as a friend if you'd like to share ideas or discuss stuff!
