stupid question?

I'm pretty sure that this is a stupid question to ask, but, I'd really like to know who's right, my husband, or me. (course, if HE'S right, he'll NEVER hear it from ME!)
My question is, when a couple has a registry for gifts that they want to get, is it gifts for the wedding, or is it for BOTH the bridal shower AND the wedding?
My husband insists that it's only for the wedding gifts, and that the bridal shower is buying stuff just for the bride. I say it's for both. Sooo, who's right? Thanks in advance for your answers!

I would assume it's safe to buy for the shower off of a bridal registry.

HOWEVER, I know some people have multiple bridal showers - usually with themes. Kitchen, hobby, lingerie, etc... If you go to one of these "themed showers", I would say buy something unique just for the bride.

There is both, you can have 2

usually you have the bridal shower first so you have a seperate registery for that and that is all the stuff for the the bride... fancy panties.... interesting shaped chocolate:ohwell: I dont think most women make a regestry for the bridal shower cuase its usually for all her close g/f's and and bridesmaids. and its usually (but not always) the maid of honor who organises that...

and there is a wedding regestry which is for the wedding gifts for both the husband and wife at the wedding ... these are usually the home essential items... like pots n pans and towels ect....

    so technically your both right:ohwell:

The bride registers her stuff separately for the bridal shower. Otherwise, you could end up getting a cordless drill for your shower because *he* wanted it and put it down for something he'd like for the wedding.

See, I'm even getting conflicting info here! I'm soooooo confused!
Oh well, I already bought them the flatware set for the bridal shower, and then they're getting cash for the wedding.
As the mother of the groom, I sure as heck can't go buying my future daughter in law some sexy clothes, now can I?!!!

Im sure it would be just as awkward for her if she received frilly panties from her Mother in law to be:laugh:

I say both! My sister got married last year and we bought stuff from her registry at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for both the shower and the wedding. They only registered one place, so everyone just bought from there!

TELL me about it. :embarassed: my MIL has the strangest ideas. At my birthday she bought me a black lacy "pajamas" set with pink hearts all over it. The worst part was that we always open our gifts in front of my husband's entire extended family... grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins... my KIDS...

    ?? WTH is she thinking?

In an ordinary circumstance, it would be both.

My bridal shower was themed tho because we had it around the same time as my bachelorette party (We got engaged and married 7 weeks later... not much time to do things) so mine was themed naughty or nice, people could give me nighties or pjs. So, the registry was for the wedding in my case. LOL.

When I was younger, the bridal shower was for the bride to be able to "set up her house", although there were always a couple of cute bedwear items. The sexer/risque things were given the bachelorette party. I think it was better separated back then than it is now. Now, it's kind of an anything goes party, because women in many cases already have their house (or apartment, lol) and don't need the basics.

Well I have three people's weddings coming up in the next three months. All of the couples have a registry for each store that is for their shower and their wedding.

From a technical standpoint I don't even know how Macy's or Target would handle 2 registries with the same name, date and location...I'm pretty sure their database wouldn't allow you to do that so the couple registering doesn't really have a choice.

GOOD! I'm telling that husband of mine that I'M right, and HE'S wrong!
I'd NEVER in a million years give my future daughter in law anything sexy, as I KNOW it would embarrass the heck out of BOTH of us!
So silverware it is, and then money for the wedding! WHO DOESN'T like money?!!!
Thanks for all your great responses! You guys are the best!
  • I just wanted to say thanks to everyone also. I'm getting married next fall and had NO clue about the whole wedding/bridal registaring thing. You guys helped tons!
