When do YOU stop eating?

Just wondering what everyone did.

I try not to eat after 7-7.30pm (messed that up today though trying to increase my calories). Some people have said they don't eat after 6pm.

What do YOU do and why?

    I don't have a cut off time.

I usually have my evening snack between 9:00pm - 9:30pm and am in bed by 10pm.

Just find what works for you. :flowerforyou:

I aim for 7pm because I don't like the idea of having my meal sitting in my stomach when I go to bed, but in reality I don't always reach that and I'm really not bothered. It's just a target.

I can't sleep if I'm hungry, so I know better than to go to bed without having a snack.

I stop when I run out of calories (usually). I tend to eat most of my calories at night and I have no cut off time.

when i run out of calories, or right before i go to sleep, whichever comes first.
theres not really a point in having a cut off time, unless you have reflux issues, or cant sleep well with food in your belly.

Just before I go to bed. I find that having a scheduled bedtime snack to look forward to makes it a lot easier to resist unscheduled and out of control snacking after dinner.

I don't have a cut off time to stop eating. I eat right before I go to bed every single night (I actually consumed over 1000 calories within an hour of going to bed last night!).

I eat whenever I feel like it. My body can't tell time.
  • We eat dinner early because of little kids, so I can't get through until morning without a snack. I have a hot drink and small piece of baking around 8.00 - 8.30pm and that keeps me going until breakfast.

My cut off time is 3 hours before bed so anywhere between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
  • I eat whenever I feel like it. My body can't tell time.

This and each person has their own rhythm (circadian, that is). So, eat when you're hungry and don't when you're not.

i eat last at about 8pm when i get in from the gym, then a couple of tbsp of cottage cheese before bed
  • I try to stop eating after 8pm. I am diabetic and I need a snack in the evening because my meds that I take with dinner (between 4-5pm) make my blood sugar drop, but only if I take a nap around 6 pm...because I am slightly anemic and get really tired. My endomologist says that the nap somehow makes my blood sugar drop drastically, so I went to 1/2 a pill for dinner. But blood sugar is okay if I don't take a nap. go figure.....

    Interesting to read :)

I remember everyone having a cut off point a few years ago. Like stop eating at 6pm, or no carbs after 5pm etc. So many people used to say it's not healthy, you can't sleep with food in your tummy etc.
I never understood it and normally don't have a cut off point, but this time I'm attempting, but only because if I eat late at night (9pm) I'm usually STARVING by the morning. It's weird, if I stop eating at 7pm, then I'm not starving in the morning lol.

People would falsely believe that eating late at night would increase overall fat storage. This is false.

In your case, it's pretty clear that late night eating causes you problems so you're doing the right thing by avoiding it.

When I have satisfied my hunger and feeling full? I have no set times, I work irregular hours and sometimes wont even be bhome till 9pm... there's no way I eat some crap on my way, if I have some nice food waiting at home

I eat when I am hungry like today I am just about to go and prepare dinner  It's 22.00 here (woke up late) but I am still gonna have my calories for the day, but then again it will probably be at least 02.00 before I go to bed

I also have a coffee just before I go to sleep some people find it keeps them awake where as I sleep like a baby

Do what works for you :flowerforyou:

I have always been a night eater since I was a child. That is what contributed to my weight problems in the first place. I tried giving up snacking completely but it just made me miserable so I have decided to allow myself to eat at night but I just substitute my old favorites for healthy things that fit into my calorie budget. I can't stand breakfast so I just eat those calories at night. I lost 100 pounds while having a snack every night so I have no problems with it

I agree that it's totally up to your routine.

I generally don't like to eat 1-2 hours before sleeping. I don't have a set sleep time because it's all over the place. Some nights 1am, others 4am, 8am... it's crazy.

My only cutoff is to not have any food in my mouth as I'm falling asleep.

I like to have a glass of chocolate milk right before bed. Yum.

No cut off time. I only worry about calories in and out, time does not matter. Just like when people zig zag calories. Having a day over will not prevent losing if another day balances it out. Eating at 11pm will not prevent weight loss either if it fits into you calories.

  • I have made that part of my goal this year and so far so good: Definitely nothing (except herbal tea and water) after 8pm I try to cut it off at 7pm but I'm a nurse so sometimes thats impractical. I have to set a limit because I had none and it got ridiculous. I was like eating another meal and snacks into the evening. Unfortuanately those translated to pounds. Hence signing up again with myfitnesspal :)
