Combining foods

Hi Everyone

After a rather scary weigh in with my personal trainer yesterday, we discussed nutrition. He was telling me about ways to combine foods that mean you digest them more efficiently which sounded a bit like the Slimming World methodology. Anyone found success by doing this:
protein can only be eaten with simple carbs (like veggies but not potatoes)
complex carbs (like rice and potatoes) can only be eaten with simple carbs (no protein)

Obviously I'm going to Google it to find out a bit more but I just wondered if people have experimented with this and whether it works.
