Hi everyone,

My name is Laura and I'm 32 from North Wales.
At present I weigh 18stone. I've lost 1st 6lb in the last 8/9 months by cutting down and limiting junk food etc. Just before Christmas I joined the gym with a friend. Its a council run gym, so we use the gym, swimming pool and have access to classes too !!! Last week we tried Bodypump and ached for days !!! Gonna persist with it again this week though !!!

When I began my weight loss mission, I weighted in a 19st 6. I've been trying to conceive for over two years with no joy. Last hope is IVF - although I've been told weight loss may help me conceive naturally. But if all else fails, IVF will only be acceptable if I have a BMI of 30 - and weigh around 14 stone.

So this is it......Here I am. A friend on Twitter told me about this site and the iPhone app. I'm enjoying tallying up my calories each day (I'm allowed 1440 apparently) and have fun exercising knowing if I push myself I might get a little treat :)

My worry though is that I will end up too muscly from the gym.....and weighing more from the muscle I may add !!!! I'm focussing on treadmill, cross trainer and exercise bike with a few weights just to tone up !!!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks
Laura :)

A common mistake women make is skipping weights because of the fear they would look "bulky." Truth is, us women lack the testosterone needed to develop large muscles. The body's basal metabolic rate increases with increases in muscle mass, which promotes long-term fat loss and helps dieters avoid yo-yo dieting. Moreover, intense workouts elevate the metabolism for several hours following the workout, which also promotes fat loss. Start slow and light, three times a week, alternating muscle groups.

    This. One hundred times this.

Welcome to MFP Laura. You can do it. Just take it one day at a time.

    Thanks ladies.
Great advice. I will persist and keep you posted.

I forgot to add....I've lost inches as well as pounds. Will have to take some piccies to compare how I am now to the leaner me ..... few months down the line yet - but I'll get there
