Recently I have been getting sick alot colds ect I had just assumed that it was the result of having two kids going on a regular basis to 3 different places full of kids and germs. A friend asked me if i was getting enough calories. My goals are set at the recommended 1200 and I eat all my exersize calories. Anyway I checked my BMR today and it says I should be at 1406. Should I change my goals? If I do at this point will it make me put on more weight? just abit confused any ideas

eating 1400 -1600 calories a day is fine just continue to workout-- In my fitness magazine and I heard Jillian Michaels on her radio show say eating 1400-1600 calories a day and workout--

I personally think nobody should just eat 1200 calories its just too low.

Don't worry about increasing to 1400 you still should lose weight since your eating less than what you used to eat prior to making the commitment to lose.

Might I add good job on your weightloss so far-- keep at it and don't for get to strength train as well-

Your "diet" should evolve as you do! I have changed my needs on several occasions, and it continues to work! Good luck to you and everyone!

I'd be really shocked if you stopped getting colds just by increasing your calories when you have small kids in the house. Particularly since you are already getting over 1200 a day, if you also eat your exercise calories.

So think about it this way (this is just IMHO so take it for what it's worth).

what is the deficit you are at.

Eating exercise calories is a good regulator, but it doesn't mean you are setting your deficit right.

I don't know what your bmi is, but if it's 30 or under, you really shouldn't have your net calories under your BMR. When was the last time you adjusted your goals to reflect the weight you have lost?

While starvation mode isn't like a light switch, it's more like the crossover from day to night, lots of grey area where the body is partially doing stuff like a starving person would. So if you're close to being in full on starvation mode, then maybe you need a few more calories.

While I think having kids, and your particular immune system play a big roll in how often you get sick, overworking and under eating also plays a roll. Also consider sleep. If you aren't getting at least 7 hours a night, you need to fix that, the body doesn't function well on under six hours of sleep (as I sit here on 6 hours last night, ugh! I'm such a hypocrite today!)
