Aside from watching total calorie intake, I also have to watch sugar (carbs) intake. Here is what I use for substitute:

Brown rice instead of white rice
Equal or Blue Agave instead of Sugar
Ezekiel bread instead of white bread
Whole wheat fluor instead of white fluor
Sugar free syrup instead of maple syrup

I have yet to find a substitute for chips, which I like.
I am also looking into making a carb free donut..not sure if possible

I like 'bready' sweets like donuts, pastries and such. One recipe I make to satisfy the cravings is to make muffins out of whole wheat fluor, mixed with flaxseed, natural apple sauce, orange juice, sunflower seeds, dried natural cranberries and baking soda.

I eat pretty much conform to a farm to fork philosophy, but i still eat white bread, rice and maple sugar when I feel like it. Brown rice equal, and Ezekiel has it's place, just not in my cupboard.

Why find substitutes? Just eliminate. Especially chips and donuts.
