How do you set your mini-goals for yourself?

I would like to start thinking about mini goals... to lose X amount by X date, etc. How do you figure out what's realistic, yet still a challenge? Or do you even try for a real challenge?

I have found setting mini goals with dates is a bit discouraging especially when you dont reach them by the date..personally I set 10lb mini goals and thats all I concentrate on reaching that 10lb mark...I dont have any specific dates in mind.:drinker:

Hmm I don't have any experience with this but my goal IS to loose 7 lbs by April 6th. I started working on this goal almost three weeks ago and I have lost two pounds and what I believe to be two inches so far! I think the past way to set a goal is the way the above poster mentioned, perhaps have a goal for a certain weight but not by a certain date so you don't get upset if it happens but I think if you are hoping to loose that 1-2 lbs a week you could pick a date by calculating the pounds you'd like to use

I've started setting mini-goals that have to do with events in my life. Right now, my goal is to get to my "wedding day weight" by my third anniversary. I have a set goal in mind, but a comfortable goal in case I don't reach it. Then I have the next date set for the next five pounds. Gives me something to look forward and celebrate. I also keep it written out boldly on my refrigerator as a reminder. That has been helping too.
