Is it okay to stop losing?

This morning was so cool. I broke into the 170's (179.7 pounds) for the first time in almost 20 years. It's just amazing how much weight I've shed. Tracking my food intake and exercise here on MFP has been a big help to me.

But here's the thing. Since the weight loss has been about a pound a week for half a year, would it be okay to slow down and just maintain for a while? Would that be a good thing or should I just keep plowing ahead and continue to lose more?

Has anyone tried just maintaining for a few weeks...and then gone back into the weight loss mode? Once I stop losing it could be hard to start up again.

I don't know. Just thinking outloud. Not sure I want to stop losing but just wondered what others thought about this. Thanks. I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

if you are happy how you are, then stop and maintain for a while. theres no reason you HAVE to keep losing other than you want to...

maybe think about some fitness goals, instead of losing weight for a while?

If you want to maintain right now, there is nothing wrong with that! Only you can make the decision and whatever you decide, no way is right or wrong. I like another posters response...maybe focus on another goal instead of the number on a scale. Maybe something new fitness wise or a race?
