I am heading to Canada next month where I walk everywhere due to lack of confidence to drive!! Not a bad thing really, whatever the reason. I am there for a month & have decided to invest in a pedometre. I do not want to spend too much money but it would also be good to be able to use it to measure distance cycled on my bike when I get back home, if there is such a thing that will do this?!?!? Any recomendations or products that you have found helpful please.

An easy solution I've found is to go over to Google Maps, particularly the Street View/overview type Maps, and pull up the area you'll be walking using an address or addresses, click where it says "get directions" and the icon for "walking" directions.

Then you can put virtual pushpins in where you start and end your walk and it'll tell you how many miles it is from point A to point B.

I then time how long it took me to walk however many miles which gives me a sense of how fast (miles per hour) I was walking.

    I hope this helps.

I have a friend who drives her routes and checks it on the milometer of the car.
