Started birth control and having trouble controlling craving

:frown: So I started birth control pills about a week and a half ago and I've been craving sweets and junk ALOT more than usual and I've gained 5 pounds since I started taking them.
I'm feeling a little depressed about this. It seems like I've been eating everything in sight lately lol
Any tips on how to stop the cravings or ignore them atleast? What do you guys do when you're having a craving?

    Ah, my favorite little slice of hell. :smile: It's going to take you a few months to get regulated on them. Just gotta hang in there.

    That 5lbs. is just water weight. It will go away. My solution is to find the healthiest version I can of what I'm craving and then fit it into my calories.

  • I don't take birth control for several reasons but this is one of them. Maybe there are alternative methods for you?

    Have an apple instead of a mars bar.

    There's the same amount of sugar in 2 apples as there is in one mars bar and about 1/2 the calories. If you are truly craving sugar that will fix it.
  • i dont ignore my cravings but i do keep them to a minimum. if i crave a donut, i eat half and thrown the rest away. and i only do it maybe once a week. if i ignore my cravings ill have a huge binge

    I would ask your doctor if you can switch to another, i have had bad experiences in the past with Birth controls and have tried 3-4 different kinds(through 6 years and only stayed on each a couple months max) before i gave up all together but i did start another a few days ago(thought i would give it another shot) and my doctor told me if i started having any problems just to call her and we would try a different one, she said there are so many choices and they all react with each person differently that we might have to change it a few times before we find the right 1 so maybe you might have to try a few before you find the right 1 for you.

    I have tried letting myself have a bit of what I'm craving and found out I have NO self control. So now I just don't give in to the cravings....I make myself just say no completely. It stinks. I started bcps 5 weeks ago and I am so flipping hungry but I know that if I allow myself to give in to my cravings I will blow it all together. When I hit my goal weight I may allow myself to indulge a craving every now and then but maybe not.
  • Thanks for all the tips guys, I see some of you are saying to replace the cravings with something healthier or to switch to a different birth control. I think I'll just stick with the pills for a few months and see how it goes.

    As far as the cravings, the apples sound like an awesome substitute! I'll try it :)
    It's just SUPER hard trying to not give into them while I'm living at home with my parents, my mother buys all these chips and cookies and I can't help but have some...*sigh*
