Organized Runs - Pet Peeves

So did my first organized run yesterday and had a blast. Couple observations though:
1. Make people who run with strollers start in the back. Too difficult to run around.
2. If it's a run/walk - make the walkers start in the back. And if you are in a walker, have some consideration & start yourself in the back.
3. Let the people who pre-register receive the t/shirts first. Latecomers should not be guaranteed a t/shirt. :explode:
That's all I have for now.
Looking forward to the running season!! :drinker:

well congrats on doing it...did you get a t shirt?
next time, get a broom stick or long cane...as you pass the walkers and strollers, give em a good thump on the booty...they will learn:laugh:0 -

NO!! I didn't get the t/shirt! :explode:
Thanks for the tip! I'll be calling you for bail money! :bigsmile:0 -
Congrats on the Run! That's always a big challenge to step up to!
My friend and I completed the Rock-N-Roll Half Marathon and they started runners according to their "best" times. That worked out really well. I couldn't agree more with you about the strollers being in the rear.0 -
I did my first race yesterday too. I agree with the walkers/strollers...but it was fun to pass them!
Mine was only 4 miles and I ran in 37:35. It's a starting point for me...hoping to get down to a 7 minute mile by fall.
Congrats!0 -

Great time!!
My pace was 9:13 & I would like to get under 9:00 this summer. Probably would have done better if I wasn't behind all the stollers. :grumble:
Well....that's my excuse anyway. :bigsmile:0 -
Some runs are more organized than others, so don't give up on them. Some runs have the pre-registered packets already made up with the t-shirt in them.
Some runs have a 5 min. or so later starting time for walkers and people with strollers.
Also, like it was already mentioned, some have you queue up according to your ability.
A lot of times, people who have walked in these before, politely put themselves toward the back and give the "real" runners space.
Good luck on your next run! :flowerforyou:0 -
Or have the walkers and strollers move to the right, runners on the left...0
-
it's true, not all runs are un-organized. I ran in the Kaiser Permanente 5K and half marathon (I did the 5K), and they had everyone lined up according to their times, with strollers in the back. They also had plenty of t-shirts (I LOVE mine, it would have been a bummer to miss out!)
Don't give up!

Congrats on just getting it done!0 -
Great job little lady!!
Are you going to run another half this summer? :flowerforyou:0 -

I'm going to do a few more races this summer and really thinking about a the Chicago Marathon. We'll see.0 -

I totally agree - I had a similar rant two weeks ago after my races. Many races have rules like you suggested, but they don't enforce them, so people just do what they want.
As for the T-shirts, I often don't bother signing up for some of the shorter races in my area unless I really like the T-shirt, so I'd be steamed if I pre-registered and didn't get the shirt!0 -

Thank you!
And what I meant to say was the first organized run of the year, not ever.
I'm a chick, gotta get the new clothes. :laugh:0
