About 2 1/2 years ago, i started on a journey where i ended up losing 86 lb, i was exercising, doctor said i had the heart rate of an athlete. last spring, i went to the dominican and did lots of walking everyday, but threw my good eating habits out the window for a week. i convinced myself that all the walking would maintain my weight for the week but i came back 5 lb up instead..and ended up gaining back 40 lb total of the 86 lost. how did i lose the weight in the first place? while i watched my calories loosely, the 2 main things were exercise..and my fitness trainer friend would say 65% of it is good eating habits. seems like common sense, but i have a few thoughts to share on

a) reverse pyramid eating- while i've never been able to go so far as having a 3 course steak meal for breakfast, i did subscribe to this principle generally and made sure my smallest meal of the day was dinner. usually it was my lunch that was my biggest (i used to have a hard time eating breakfast as it was:) i do believe in the principle the metabolic furnace in your body fires up from the moment you get up and needs to be fueled. on the converse, north americans tend to eat their biggest meals at late in the afternoon, early evening..when the furnace is wanting to gear down!

b) i don't generally believe in this eating back your calories spent notion, unless your idea is to maintain your weight. if as many say, most of it is the math of calories in/calories out to lose weight, then that makes no sense to me you'll lose weight if you match your calories in and out (or maybe i misunderstand something here)

all i can say is my best weight loss success has come from 30 minutes minimum of highly active exercise per day and employing somewhat of an eat smaller as the day goes by regime.

it took 3 to 4 days to get used to a small dinner, but i got used to it..was never hungry in the evening after that and felt great. i was putting on muscle, taking off fat. (was monitored by my fitness trainer at the time)

thoughts?
